That was a play

Hey everyone!

So last night I went to see "This is a play" which supported Habitat for Humanity. I have to say going into it I wasn't too sure what to expect, because it was only a half hour long. But I honestly LOVED it. The story was funny, the actors were great and overall it was really well done. I won't spoil too much in case you plan to go see it, but basically its about these three actors who are performing a play and their 3 minds that go along with them. There is something about lettuce which makes no sense whatsoever, but its OK because everything lettuce is brought up you laugh a little more. So I suggest going to see it! It's at the Nip Theatre, so you don't even have to go far, and come on guys its only $2 to see it. Besides all the proceeds are going to help the fine Nip students who are going to the States to help out those affected by Hurricane Katrina...how can you say no???

It'ssssss Club Daze again!

Hey guys!

Just in case you haven't noticed the hallways are lined with tables, I thought I would mention club daze which is going on this week until Friday. Club daze is a great time to sign up for something really awesome that suits your interests. There are a ton to choose from, there's the dance club, the NUSU street team, habitat for humanity and even a zombie club!
So really you have to be able to find SOMETHING you like. Joining a club is a great way to meet other students with the same interests with you, and do something fun with your spare time (not that we have a lot as it is). Anyways I thought I would encourage you to join a club, and if you do, let me know how it goes!

Nip Can dance...did you know?

Hey guys!

I just wanted to share something cool with you, that you may not know about...Nip Can dance, literally. Nipissing and Canadore have a dance club which is open to ANYONE! That's right, anyone...you just have to have a love of dance to join. Both guys and gals welcome. We practice every Friday afternoon at 3:30 and there are TONS of styles to choose from...hip hop, zumba, lyrical, tap, step dance, jazz, you name it, we've done it.

The best part about this club...its FREE and its fun. It's completely student run, which means students are taking time out of their Friday afternoons to teach others their favourite style of dance. Take me for example, I teach hip hop...nobody pays me, I just do it because I love it. It's the perfect stress release. If you're super busy, stressed-out, come and take an hour or two out of your day and shake it off, it's that easy...you don't have to be a dance superstar to join.

If you're not so much into dancing yourself, but love to watch a good show, then you should come and see them perform on March 26th and 27th at their year end recital "Spotlight on Stage". Both are evening shows (times to come) and with two dates to choose from, how can you say no? The show also includes musical guests...singers, guitar players, pianists, you name it, so its a fun, chill evening (or two if you like it that much the first time) for everyone.

If there are any further questions, or if you are interested in joining, please contact nipudance@hotmail.com!

Until next time, keep on dancin'

Winter Classics Weekend!!!!

So this is my first blog ever! (I've been an avid facebook cree- I mean user for a long time but this is my first time as a blogger, so here we go!

To start off, I'll tell ya a bit about myself. I'm a third year fine arts major, in OTT. I work for Leave the Pack Behind on campus. I am the VP External for the Nipissing and Canadore Dance Club. I am also a frosh leader and usually attempt to be in any and all intramural sports and tournaments...so as you can see I am one involved Laker!

So this weekend was Winter Classics weekend at Nipissing, which is one of THE BEST weekends all year. For anyone who doesn't know Winter Classics is an event run by NUSAC (the athletic people) and its fun winter games played mostly outdoors, and some indoors. I've been on the same team since my first year, and we usually do pretty well for the most part. Winter Classics is kinda like frosh week (with alcohol for everyone!), there are points for actually winning events and there are also spirit points. My team is much better at spirit than actually winning, but this year we did ok in both! Its pretty exhausting doing all those events from 9-3, running around and singing cheers all day. Our team is only 14 people, compared to some who have 20-25 so we do what we can! This year my friend Dani broke her ankle in a dodgeball toury, so instead of replacing her on the team, we bought a sled and pulled her from event to event! What can I say? We're dedicated!
Dancing at the wall in the middle of the day is definately the best part. Everyone is dressed from head to toe in winter gear: boots, hats, snow pants, and we're all crammed on the stage singing our hearts out with a drink in one hand and a slice of pizza in the other! Did I mention its about 2 in the afternoon? Over all it makes for a fabulous weekend.
I was too tired after the awards ceremony I went to sleep before ever making it to the victory pub at the wall...I hear it was outrageusly fun though! Even if I missed out on the bar, there was no way I was missing out on Burger World!

Well thats all for today I think, more to come soon I am sure!

Keep on Dancin'!
